CleanTec Services Ltd has become one of the first cleaning companies in the country to be an âemployee-owned businessâ. Founded by Peter Rochford and Chris Rogers (pictured) in 2000 to provide a high-quality cleaning service across the public and private sectors in the UK, the business recently saw its 1250 employees take majority ownership.
Peter Rochford, director of CleanTec, said: âWe have just celebrated our 20th year in business, and it has been a great time to reflect on the efforts of all our employees. We wanted to sustain the future of the business and safeguard the culture of the company. This change means that our workers will be recognised as more than just employees but partners in something that they have helped create.â
The shift in ownership means that staff will be the majority shareholders of the business. A trustee board with employee trustee directors supported by an elected employee council will provide an additional forum and voice for the employees throughout the company.
Peter Rochford continued: âEOB (employee-owned business) employees are proven to be more engaged, more productive and there is a positive impact on staff motivation and wellbeing. This is because they have a vested interest in the companyâs future. I am confident that our clients will feel the impact of this exciting change.â
